  • The largest of all deer species, moose can stand 6 feet tall from hoof to shoulder, with massive antlers that span up to 6 feet wide.

  • Predatory pack animals and the largest members of the dog family, wolves were hunted to near extinction in the lower 48 states.
  • Black Bears: the most common bear in North America, these solitary forest dwellers range in color from black and brown to cinnamon and even white.
  • Beavers: these ingenious builders dam streams with timber, mud and stones to slow the water’s flow and construct lodges in the resulting ponds.
  • With habitats ranging from forests to wetlands, the Great Lakes are home to a variety of birds, including the piping plover, wood thrush and woodpecker.
