Yucatán (Progreso), Mexico

The port of Progreso is the gateway both to Yucatán’s capital, Mérida, and to the many Mayan sites of interest throughout the peninsula. This includes the remarkably preserved ruins of Chichén Itzá, a fascinating complex of pre-Columbian pyramids, temples and palaces. Today, it is one of the world’s most intriguing sites, cloaked in mystery and believed to be a mythical city referred to in Mesoamerican literature. Among its most awe-inspiring structures are the perfectly symmetrical pyramid of the Kukulcan Temple and the Temple of the Warriors with its graceful columns.
