This morning, travel to the rocky coastline of Lake Superior for a visit to the famous Split Rock Lighthouse. Built after the devastating Mataafa Storm of 1905 sank or damaged 29 vessels on the lake, the lighthouse facilitated the safe passage of ships from Minnesota’s Iron Range for nearly 60 years before its decommissioning in 1969. Tour the site and enjoy sweeping views over the North Shore, then journey back to your hotel, stopping to savor a taste of delicious gooseberry pie on the way. (B)
