Dry Dock Work Starts on Viking’s Sixth Ocean Ship

With Keel Laid, Construction on Newest Sister Ship Now Moves to Next Stage in Ancona

Los Angeles (October 18, 2017) – Viking® (www.vikingcruises.com) today announced that the keel laying ceremony for its sixth ship took place at Fincantieri’s shipyard in Ancona, Italy. The yet-to-be named ship is the sixth of eight sister ships Viking has ordered from Fincantieri and will be delivered in early 2019.

The first building block of the ship is approximately 11 meters long and 28.8 meters wide, weighing approximately 380 tons. Just like its sister ships, Viking’s sixth ship will have a gross tonnage of 47,800 tons, with 465 staterooms for 930 guests.

Viking’s first ocean ship, Viking Star, was built at Fincantieri’s Marghera shipyard and was delivered in March 2015. The second, third and fourth ships – Viking Sea, Viking Sky and Viking Sun – were delivered in March 2016, January 2017 and September 2017, respectively. The fifth ship, Viking Orion, is under final construction and will be delivered in summer 2018. Two additional ships are on order for delivery in 2021 and 2022.
